SCUBA DIVING – DIVE SITES
Anse Chastanet Reef
A diver’s paradise, this marine reserve features a shallow plateau between 5 and 25 feet before plunging to depths over 145 feet. Vibrant gorgonians, soft corals, and sponges cover the reef, creating a haven for marine life. Expect encounters with moray eels, parrotfish, blennies, and schools of needlefish. Photographers will love the macro life on display, making every dive a unique experience.
Fairyland
A continuation of the Anse Chastanet Reef, Fairyland begins at around 40 feet and gradually slopes into the depths. Brightly colored soft corals and massive barrel sponges blanket the area, while schools of horse-eye jacks and creole wrasse glide gracefully by. Hawksbill turtles are a common sight, and when currents pick up, this site becomes a dreamy drift dive.
Turtle Reef
Named for its regular turtle sightings, this crescent-shaped reef in Anse Chastanet Bay begins at a shallow 15 feet and quickly drops off beyond 150 feet. Large boulders, spectacular pillar corals, and barrel sponges line the reef, creating a dynamic environment where hawksbill and green turtles frequently glide through the crystal-clear waters.
Superman’s Flight
At the base of Petit Piton, this exhilarating drift dive was named after a scene from “Superman II” filmed here. Strong currents propel divers along steep walls adorned with enormous barrel sponges and vibrant orange soft corals. It’s a thrilling ride and a must for adventure seekers.Trou Diable (Devil’s Hole)
This intriguing dive site, whose name means “Devil’s Hole” in Creole, offers one of the largest plateau diving areas in St. Lucia. Barrel sponges and coral heads thrive here, sheltering schools of chromis and grunts. The reef’s pristine condition makes it one of the healthiest ecosystems around.Pinnacles (Keyhole Pinnacles)
Just outside Soufriere Bay, four towering volcanic peaks rise from the depths, almost breaking the surface. These dramatic formations are home to trumpetfish, filefish, blennies, and, if you’re lucky, elusive seahorses. The Pinnacles offer stunning underwater topography that will leave divers in awe.Lesleen M Wreck
Sunk in 1986 as an artificial reef, this 165-foot freighter now rests in 65 feet of water. Over time, the wreck has become encrusted with sea fans, sponges, and coral, attracting a vibrant community of marine life. Schools of fish swirl around the wreck, joined by moray eels, frogfish, and lobsters lurking in the shadows.Grande Caille
Meaning “Large Reef” or “Big House” in Creole, Grande Caille lives up to its name with towering gorgonians, massive brain corals, and pristine barrel sponges. The dramatic underwater landscape creates a breathtaking scene, perfect for divers seeking an immersive experience.
Jalousie
Situated at the base of Gros Piton, this dive site is just a short boat ride from shore. Schools of fish dart through the water, weaving between colorful corals and sponges. The site offers a diverse range of marine species and stunning underwater views.
Coral Garden
True to its name, this site is a lush underwater garden. The reef starts shallow, maxing out at around 50 feet, making it perfect for all levels of divers. Sargassum triggerfish and other marine life often make an appearance, especially in the sandy patches further down.
Sugar Beach Reef
A stone’s throw from the Soufriere Town, this easy-access dive is ideal for beginners and newly certified divers. The calm waters offer a serene environment to explore colorful coral formations and schools of tropical fish right off the shore.
Staircase
Named for its unique formation, Staircase offers an untouched reef bursting with marine life. Healthy coral growth lines the walls, and turtles of all sizes can often be seen gliding by. The site’s natural beauty makes it a favorite among divers seeking tranquility.
Each site offers its own unique charm, ensuring unforgettable dives that showcase St. Lucia’s underwater beauty. Whether you’re exploring dramatic walls, historic wrecks, or vibrant reefs, the waters surrounding Soufriere promise adventure and wonder at every depth.
